Home Remedies For Acne

Acne treatments have been around for ages. Some work better than others. Many people afflicted with this type of skin condition will go to seek medical help. Prescriptions usually work well but they are never without side effects. Some side effects are worse than the condition for which the meds are prescribed. Prescription medication generally comes with a fairly high price tag. For these reasons, you may want to give acne home remedies a try. They usually have no side effects at all since they often consist of fruits, vegetables and spices you already have. These remedies also save you lots of money.

Causes Of Acne

Acne is caused not just by one single entity. It often is the result of hormonal and bacterial interaction with sebum and keratin. Pilosebaceous glands grow in size during puberty under the influence of androgen increase. This will increase the activity of the sebaceous glands as well, frequently causing inflammation. These inflammatory lesions will show on the skin as pustules, cysts or sometimes nodules. Acne that stems from non-inflammatory activity usually is restricted to open or closed comedones which are generally known as blackheads or whiteheads respectively.

Take care of your skin when you embark on acne remedies. You may be tempted to scrub your face with harsh materials in the hope that this will kill the acne causing germs. This will only result in greater inflammation not only on the affected areas of your skin but also on the clear areas. When you wash your face once in the morning and once before bedtime, use comfortably warm water in which you have dissolved a teaspoon of salt. This will remove oil traces but doesn’t dry out your skin like soap would. Use a smooth washcloth, not a brush for washing. It is very important not to squeeze pimples, no matter how tempting it is. Squeezing will damage your skin and may leave scars.

It is a little messy, so secure your hair on the back or top of your head and cover your pillow case with a towel to protect it. This remedy should get rid of all your acne without leaving scars.

A Remedy From Your Medicine Cabinet

After washing and drying your face at night, apply a little dab of toothpaste directly onto the pimple. Toothpaste, not the gel type, has a drying effect and will dry out the pimple over a night or two. In the morning, carefully wash and dry your face.
