Surgical Remedies for Spider Veins

With spider veins being such a common occurrence in today’s world and more and more people wanting to get rid of this nuisance there are a number of options besides traditional treatment that are available to help treat spider veins.

If one does not want to opt for traditional remedies like the support stocking, walking, dietary regulations and supplements there are medical procedures available. It must be noted however that these procedures only treat the ailment and do not cure it. So if one is prone to spider veins treatment will have to be repeated.

Sclerotheraphy

Sclerotheraphy is a fairly commonly opted for treatment for Spider veins. This treatment is a fairly simple procedure and does not require the patient to check into a hospital. It can even be performed in the out patient department.

The procedure involves the injecting of a highly concentrated saline solution into the veins. This solution collapses the veins causing them to fade away. The larger veins are treated first. This treatment usually takes between 3 to 6 weeks to be effective. No anesthesia is required for this procedure and can often be supplemented with skin care.

Laser Surgery

Laser surgery is also a commonly opted for spider vein removal and is an ideal treatment for those who don’t like the idea of needle insertion. Laser surgery is done by exposing the veins to intense and short bursts of light of a particular wavelength to destroy them.

Laser surgery is non invasive and hence there is no need for anesthesia or injections. This makes it a very popular option for most. One sitting may take between 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the number of veins. In some cases there might be a need for multiple treatment to make the veins disappear fully.

Other methods

Apart from the two methods mentioned above there are surgical methods available for the removal of Spider and even Varicose veins. These are noted to be more effective than laser or Sclerotheraphy as they are more effective in closing the veins completely.

These surgical methods are invasive and require hospitalization and anesthesia. Some of these surgeries are ambulatory phlebectomy, endoscopic vein surgery, catheter assisted procedures and vein stripping.

While all of the above methods of getting rid of spider veins are fairly successful, it is important that one consults a doctor and gets the appropriate tests done before deciding on the type of treatment. The type pf treatment administered also depends largely on the degree to which the Spider veins have spread and the areas affected.
