Microderm Abrasion | Shedding Your Old Skin
Exfoliating your skin removes dead cells, dirt and oil and provides a healthy environment for new skin cells to regenerate. Microderm Abrasion is the technique used by many to resuscitate, smooth and polish. It is one of the most common skin care products, and it has proved to be a companion to many skin care treatments.
Beginning in our late 20’s, our natural skin shedding process slows. As it slows, dead cells “get in the way” of new cells. Several results occur. One, dirt, oil, and chemicals are trapped in the skin. This can lead to pre-mature skin aging, wrinkles, and fine lines. Two, out-breaks of skin rashes, rosocea, and acne often occur due to infection and lack of deep-cleaning. Skin products can help.
In the ‘70s, when people wanted to exfoliate, they used dermabrasion - acting much like a sander for furniture….a rather gritty sander, the process removed the outermost layer of the skin to reveal a younger looking, softer skin. Today it is used mainly to remove scars and dark skin spots. The sanding procedure is usually painful, expensive and patients had to be confined inside the house for at least a week to allow the skin to heal.
With advances in science and the discovery of natural-based active ingredients, microderm abrasion has now become common. Microderm abrasion uses the same principles as dermabrasion in that removing the outermost layer – or more correctly – the thin layer of dead cells, is the treatment’s primary objective. The difference is that this is done using lighter abrasion generally applied by hand in conjunction with a rejuvenating cream base. This procedure is very popular among day spas. It leaves the skin immediately refreshed and prepared to receive treatments. Anti-wrinkle, ant-aging, soothing lotions and creams, pore minimizing, and aroma treatments all provide much better results when they are able to reach deep down to the secondary dermal layers.
The process of exfoliation and the use of microderm abrasion creams have been endorsed by many dermatologists. In fact, physician-led acne treatments generally begin with exfoliation. These creams have gained popularity as an alternative to expensive professional treatments because, aside from being very affordable, they really visibly help in reducing wrinkles, scars and skin spots. They reduce the signs of aging because they are exfoliating…something our bodies need…regular shedding of skin. On a daily basis you can wash away your age and you’ll start looking younger in no time.
You might also want to check if the microderm abrasion creams have been combined with natural provided extracts, essences and fragrances like Green Tea, citrus fruits and vegetables. These ingredients not only have anti-oxidation properties but can also help prepare your skin for the exfoliation. They may also combine it with vitamins for added potency. Products with these ingredients are also less likely to create allergic reactions to sensitive skin. Learn more about exfoliation and skin care products.
